Aidan graduated in Civil Engineering from Queen's University of Belfast in 1988 and spent most of the subsequent 13 years working in the humanitarian sector in Ethiopia, Eritrea, Afghanistan and Angola.

Following an MBA in Strathclyde in 2002 Aidan began doctoral research on the subject of corporate social responsibility. His research seeks to combine insights from institutional, agency and psychological theory to better understand the relationship between organisations and society. He has a particular interest in the challenges associated with trans-national corporation operation in poor and undemocratic countries.

Amongst other things he has also managed to become captain of the Strathclyde University Challenge team for the forthcoming 2003-2004 series.

Conference papers:
McQuade. A. & Johnson.P. (2003) Mapping the Terrain: Understandings of Corporate Social Responsibility. Paper to be presented at British Academy of Management Conference, Harrogate, 15th-17th September.

In this paper, the complex and controversial phenomenon of corporate social responsibility is mapped in terms of the major theoretical stances that have emerged or are emerging. The paper arrives at a stance that suggests CSR can only be seen as the product of multi faceted inter-relationships between society and business and the search for a single definition or formula may not be a helpful approach.
