Computer Services

Strathclyde Business School students have access to a wide variety of dedicated computing resources within their campus building.

Wired and Wireless Networking & Facilities

Within SBS' Cathedral Street building, students with laptops have free access to the Web and internal student network via both fixed wire and wireless network access points. All our lecture theatres have fixed network points and wireless hotspots so students can remain connected throughout. Our lecture theatres are also equipped with a Dell computer, with DVD & VCR projection capability via a digital projector and white boards.

Two computer labs are also available to our students, for a mix of teaching, group and personal work. In addition to this, students have dedicated colour inkjet and black & white laser printing facilities throughout their time here.

Available Applications

Students have access to a wide range of Windows based applications installed within the computer labs. Although we can not provide students with copies of any commercial Microsoft applications, students are able to take advantage of preferential educational pricing on software and also have free access to "Site Licensed" packages such as virus checkers, decision making & statistical software.

Email & Personal Computing

All full time students are automatically provided with a Strathclyde Internet e-mail account which can be accessed via the World Wide Web (and all other students are able to request an account if required). All e-mail is based on the very latest Microsoft Exchange e-mail technology and can be accessed throughout the world.

SBS courses do not have a formal computer hardware requirement, although many students feel it is of great benefit to own their own equipment throughout their year here. We do recommend that laptops run Windows 2000 or XP and have either a wired or wireless network connection. Although Apple iMac laptops can usually connect to the network here, much of the software used here will only run on Windows, so these machines can be limiting.

Any students who do not have a laptop, or access to a home computer, can still access the SBS computer labs throughout normal building opening hours. The recently upgraded labs are all equipped with Microsoft Windows XP & Office, colour and laser printers, Internet access and all the software you will use throughout your course.

IT Department

SBS has an IT department who are dedicated to supporting the staff and students of the graduate school and aim to provide a high quality support service to all our students. If you have any questions regarding the computing facilities available to students here, please contact us on:
