His doctoral research, was based on three in-depth, longitudinal case studies, with organisations in the whisky and spirits, paper, and IT consultancy industries in which he researched the impact of scenario planning as a contemporary approach to exploring the contextual environment. His subsequent publications have developed new insights about organisation-environment relationship, including the role of external 'jolts' to trigger strategic change, the role of transitional objects in the process of constancy and change, as well as developing the understanding of "our" (as opposed to the) environment.
George is currently Chair of the Strategic Foresight Special Interest Group at the British Academy of Management. George is co-founder and Managing Director of the Centre for Scenario Planning and Future Studies (the Centre), at Strathclyde Business School.
