Strathclyde Business School Department of Marketing
Established in 1971, the Department of Marketing is an integral part of the Strathclyde Business School and ranks as the largest department of marketing amongst Scottish universities, and one of the largest in the UK.
Over the years it has gained an international reputation for the quality of its research and teaching. Staff hold senior positions in the Chartered Institute of Marketing, The Marketing Society, the Market Research Society and other marketing related associations, and staff have acted as advisors to the European Commission, the UN and the World Bank, as well as national and international companies.
Across each of the department's programmes, there are five founding principles underpinning the department's aim of providing excellence in Masters level marketing education, these being:
- Teaching Excellence
- Diversity of Subjects
- Cross Cultural Interaction
- Applied Problem Solving
- Continuous Innovation
The department's flagship degree course at the undergraduate level is the Honours Marketing course. At the postgraduate level, two Masters degrees are offered; the first is the MSc Marketing which is intended primarily for non-business graduates; the second is a specialised MSc International Marketing, designed for those who already have a good first degree in business or relevant practical experience. These degrees reflect the dynamic and technologically innovative nature of contemporary marketing, spanning both private and public sectors and many graduates from these programmes now occupy senior executive positions in leading companies around the world.. While both degrees can be studied on a full-time basis, they can also be undertaken by 'Flexible Learning'. The Department of Marketing is a pioneer in the creation of distance learning marketing degrees, with over 20 years of experience, and has been at the forefront of innovation in the delivery of marketing education through Flexible Learning degree courses and in the use of internet-based learning materials.
As a centre of excellence in marketing education, research is core to the Department's activities. The majority of our academic staff are actively involved in research and have built a strong portfolio of publications in leading academic and practitioner journals.
