Education: BSc (Sociology with Philosophy, Ulster), MA (Philosophy, Sheffield), MSc (Personnel Management, Aston), PhD (HRM, Open), MCIPD, ILTM.
Nic's current research is focused on the construction of individual and group identity at work and the problems and possibilities that arise from such constructions. His research has been published in journals including Human Relations, Organization Studies and the Journal of Applied Behavioural Science. He is also co-author of three books on HRM and Management Learning which have been translated into Chinese, Japanese, Hungarian and Russian. Nic has also written for practice-oriented journals such as People Management and the Health Service Journal.
Nic chairs the British Academy of Management Special Interest Group on Identity, as well as the Critical Management Studies conference and European Academy of Management conference streams on Identity. He is a Senior Editor of the journal Organization Studies.
Prior to entering academia, Nic worked as a human resource manager and he is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Nic's work with client organisations over the last decade has involved change facilitation at strategic and inter-personal levels in many organisations from the manufacturing, utilities, service and health sectors.
