Paul has two main research interests. The first is concerned with the field of inter-organizational relations, and addresses the range of collaborative forms and processes that are increasingly seen as solutions to complex problems of organization, such as supply chain management and public service delivery. The second is concerned with understanding how organizational practices are constructed, and the constraints that this places upon the choices and actions of managers. Paul has provided management development and advice on these areas of practice to National and Local Government, Health Bodies and Community Partnerships.
Paul is the former Convenor (2005-2007) of the British Academy of Management’s Special Interest Group on Inter-Organizational Relations, and a continuing member of the steering group. His research has been recognized internationally; he has received best paper awards from the Critical Management Studies Group of the Academy of Management in 2007, the Identity Division of the British Academy of Management in 2006 and, (with co-author, Chris Huxham) the Academy of Management’s Rupert F. Chisholm award for the best theory-to-practice article in 2005. Paul’s previous career includes experience as a Research Fellow of the Advanced Institute of Management Research, preceded by management experience in consultancy and industry.
