Thomas is an experienced lecturer and researcher in the fields of management, strategy / strategic management, change management, knowledge management, New Public Management, Critical Management Studies, critical theory, philosophy and methodology.
His research concentrates on the roles of management and managers within an organisational and a wider societal context. He contributes to interdisciplinary, socio-philosophical and critical interrogations of the relations between the individual, organisations, and society with the focus on power, interests, and ideology. Thomas is particularly interested in identifying and investigating alternative, democratic and innovative forms of organisations and business models.
In previous empirical research concerning senior managers’ perceptions and change management he closely collaborated with companies and public sector organisations within very different industries. He accompanied several change management initiatives and, in doing so, gained a thorough understanding of the complexity and difficulties of organisational change and multi-dimensional performance measurement and management systems.
Before Thomas joined Strathclyde Business School in summer 2007 he had been working as a lecturer and researcher for many years at universities in UK (Oxford Brookes University, Open University) and in Germany (Technische Universität Chemnitz, Georg-August Universität Göttingen).
Before joining academia Thomas had been working for 14 years in several industry and service organisations, as a self-employed consultant and freelance lecturer.
